Minutes of the Environmental Commission
March 5, 2008

1. Approval of February 6, 2008 Minutes
Motion to approve the minutes as presented moved by Owen Henry, seconded by Perry Simone, all in favor.
2. Bills Outstanding
No bills to date.
3. Old Bridge Trails Project
Blanche Hoffman reported the Open Space Committee will write ANJEC (the grantor) supporting the project.
On behalf of the OBEC, Blanche presented a draft letter of support to be sent to ANJEC.
Owen Henry reported that Township Engineer Jim Cleary will assist in providing potential engineering firms to the OBEC for developing the project. In order to achieve the Commission's goal of developing such a project, data and documents need to be compiled for presentation to the Council for adoption. Owen has requested the OBEC members to return back to him, by February 20, the following: Identification of sites to be joined and potential sites. Additional data needed are: Master Plan Amendment, Municipal Land Use Laws, Ordinance Adoption.
4. Open Space
Wayne Farmer reported the Committee reviewed findings on township properties listed and assessed the value of such properties.
On March 23, 2003 the OBEC had compiled an Open Space Plan for Old Bridge. Large tracts of open space with the Township were listed and should be included in the open space project for review.
5. Earth Day
Blanche Hoffman suggested focus should be on the importance of trees in the environment and environmentally friendly houses and garden products; i.e., solar energy and lighting.
Blanche will put in a bid for the purchase of T-shirts to be given out.
6. Recycling
Debbie DePew handed out the Township Ordinance for Solid Waste, Mandatory Recycling, Violations and Penalties and adding Outdoor Storage Design Standards - Refuse and Recycling. At the time of issuing any building permit a Notification of Construction/Demolition Activity Form is to be filled out and presented to MC Division of Solid Waste Management within 48 hours of the issuance of a municipal permit.
7. Global Remediation
In George Millett's absence, Wayne Farmer reported that, to date, George has still had no word from Mr. Pallone.
8. Planning and Zoning
Alfieri applications moved to the next Zoning Board Meeting.
