January 9, 2002

1. Welcome and Introduction of New Members
Blanche Hoffman welcomed Perry Simone as a new member to the Environmental Commission.
Mickey Gross, Chief REHS of Middlesex County Health Department introduced Andrew Snyder liaison to the OBEC.
2. Approval of November 14, 2001 Minutes
With correction to minutes showing Cindy Bell excused, Robert Sommers moved to approve the minutes as corrected, Andrew Crabb seconded, all in favor.
3. Adoption of 2002 Calendar
Robert Sommers motioned to approve the calendar as submitted, Wayne Farmer seconded, all in favor.
Robert Sommers announced Earth Day would be held on April 20, 2002 at the Nature Center in Cheesequake Park from 10:00am-3:00pm.
4. Goals for 2002
Blanche Hoffman suggested that in order to make the community aware of the Environmental Commissions existence and responsibilities, a newsletter mailing may be considered or an article be written for the local news media.
Open Space Master Plan-Blanche Hoffman will discuss with Planner Sam Rizzo the status of the open space and environmental element of the Master Plan. The Environmental Commission set up a subcommittee to work on what is needed to get the Open Space Plan off the ground. Gary Szelc suggests that all Open Space be identified i.e. vacant lands and sensitive lands. Blanche Hoffman, Perry Simone, Wayne Farmer, Andrew Crabb and Gary Szelc will be participants of the subcommittee and will meet on January 17th.
GIS-Blanche Hoffman reported that the Township is exploring the use of GIS technology for its data. Gary Szelc suggested that ANJEC be contacted to see if an experienced GIS consultant would be available to attend an OBEC meeting.
Greenway Education and Proposed Acquisition Grant-The OBEC will be advised by March 15th on approval of Grant Project ES02-043.
Blanche Hoffman moved for approval of reappointment of Susan Knauf as Vice Chair, Owen Henry seconded, all in favor.
5. Bills Outstanding
2002 ANJEC Membership Dues-Blanche Hoffman moved for approval of payment for $280.00 for 7 members and 2 alternates. Andrew Crabb seconded, all in favor.
6. Announcements and Seminars
Land Trust Alliance Meeting-February 9, 2002-anyone interested in attending should contact Blanche for further information.
7. Planning and Zoning
Watershed Impacts During Master Plan Review-Owen Henry suggested that when plans are being reviewed, wetlands should be reviewed very closely.
Blanche Hoffman will ask Sam Rizzo why applications do not have topographical maps and surveys. Gary Szelc would like to know if and when landscaping plans are submitted are they done by professional landscaping architects, and is not, why are they not required to be.

101-01P Ultimate Dance Works. The OBEC comments will be sent to the Planning Board for the February 9th meeting.
112-01P Michael Sodano (Minor Subdivision). The OBEC comments will be sent to the Planning Board for the
January 25th meeting.
