3. Open Space Discussion Wayne Farmer reported on the Old Bridge Environmental Commission Task Force meeting held on February 21, 2002. The Mission Statement for the Task Force is that the OBEC Open Space Task Force is formed to generate an open space plan that will serve to guide the Township of Old Bridge in protecting and preserving open space for the current and future needs of the community. Wayne indicated that the Open space Committee is concentrating on prioritizing properties. The Open Space Task Force will identify open space areas and greenways that can be used for hiking, biking and non-motorized transportation. Perry Simone is in the process of contacting other local Townships concerning their open space plans. The Open space Survey will be sent to the Township residents in the next tax bill. Susan Knauf suggested it be put on the Township web site as well. Wayne read a letter from Mayor Cannon to Blanche Hoffman and Mike Caffrey asking for prioritizing lands in the community that we believe should be candidates for the County to acquire for County open space purposes. There is also a need to identify lands that Old Bridge wished to acquire for its own purposes with financial assistance from the County's open space trust fund. The OBEC will respond to the Mayor's request indicating that it is premature at this time to identify specific parcels for acquisition without the plan the OBEC Open Space Task Force intends to complete at the end of the calendar year.
Wayne read correspondence to Thomas Badcock from Ralph Albanir asking for support for Phase II of the waterfront. Susan Knauf will write Cathy Shaw of the NJDEP Green Acres Program with support from the OBEC.
Andrew Crabb presented his report on the jitney service now starting in the Sayrewoods South section of the Township. Correspondence will be sent to both Barbara York, Chair; and Richard Zipp of the Old Bridge Township Transportation Committee commending them on their work to bring improved public transportation resources to Old Bridge Township.
