Minutes of the Environmental Commission
July 7, 2004

Blanche Hoffman opened the meeting by introducing Greg Renaud, NY/NJ Baykeeper.
Mr. Renaud reported that one million dollars was made available to purchase property around Cheesequake State Park and Sommers Brothers property. The CNK property was acquired for $45,000. The Baykeeper has a $1.4 million grant for the Green Acres Program. The Harbor Estuary sites are earmarked for $800,000 for priority acquisition restoration. The plan for Whale Creek and Margaret's Creek should move forward to keep them preserved.
Mr. Renaud suggested the OBEC send to his attention issues, outlines and ideas for Margaret's Creek with a copy as well as to Mayor Phillips.
Discussion ensued regarding the waterfront plans - the Township is responsible for police force, the County is responsible for maintenance. Blanche Hoffman will request from Mayor Phillips a summary on the status on these plans.
Blanche Hoffman will contact the Solid Waste Commission at the State level regarding the Global Landfill Site.

3. Study Land Acquisition for Open Space
Blanche Hoffman reported there is a subcommittee working on the conservation element, and Blanch will contact Sam Rizzo to query whether or not Margaret's Creek will be included.
George MIllet will contact Mayor Phillips as to what plans there are to date with regard to Margaret's Creek. This item will be included on the OBEC September agenda.
