Minutes of the Environmental Commission May 4, 2005

1. Approval of April 6, 2005 Minutes
Motion to approve the minutes as presented made by Owen Henry, seconded by Perry Simone, all in favor.
2. Bills Outstanding
Linda Hardy to turn in bill for water purchased for Earth Day - tabled for the next OBEC meeting.
3. Earth Day Activities at Cheesequake State Park
Blanche Hoffman reported both Linda Hardy and Wayne Farmer were participants. Hamburgers were donated by Burger King. Mayor Phillips will send a thank you letter.
Literature on lawn care and water conservation prepared by ANJEC was handed out. Seedlings were planted in Cheesequake State Park by the Boy and Girl Scouts.
4. 2005 ESP Matching Grant
Blanche Hoffman reported that the grant application was denied. However, the OBEC will resubmit in December for the 2006 grant.
In discussion with Wayne Farmer, the OBEC will prepare an article on Greenways within Old Bridge and their importance in the Township.
5. Sayreville High School Conservation Club
Deborah Marquez presented an article posted in the Star Ledger pertaining to the Sayreville Conservation Corps, which included students from the high school. Further discussion is tabled for the next OBEC meeting, at which time the Commission members will have had a copy to review.
Blanche Hoffman reported having attended the April 28 Zoning Board special meeting on the Alfieri application. Because of the late hour, Blanche was not able to speak regarding the environmental concerns. The Zoning Board continued until June for further discussions.
Perry Simone ordered from ANJEC pamphlets entitled New Jersey Environmental Primer, which simplifies environmental vocabulary, definitions and descriptions commonly used in environmental literature and media reports.
6. Planning and Zoning
114-04P - Woodhaven Plaza Tabled for June OBEC meeting.
28-05P - Wayne Inc. Wawa In reviewing the application, the potential negative environmental concerns is the impact to historic Barclay Brook from an accidental spill of hazardous materials. In the event of an accident involving a gasoline delivery, what precaution is the applicant planning to take to avoid such a situation which could potentially run-off in to the brook.
