ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED
DISCUSSION WITH MAYOR PHILLIPS: Mayor Phillips shared his ideas about Phillips Preserve Park. Lisa Cooney will be in charge of field usage while these fields are being built with the County preparing the field permits based on what Lisa reserves for leagues. At this time non-resident Old Bridge leagues will not be able to use these fields unless Lisa approves. It is mentioned that Bob Ritz would like one of these fields to use for lacrosse in March.
Sy Bosco is acting superintendent of schools. Dr. Bosco likes the idea of all weather fields as suggested in the past by Al DiRocco. This is an opportunity for a possible partnership with the Board of Ed and the Township.
Mayor Phillips discussed Mannino Park, a $20+ million project to be done in phases. He went over the site map with the committee. He mentioned that there is a man-made lake by this park which is a gem.
The Mayor mentions he would like Vets Park Recreation Building to be renovated.
Geick Park infield project was discussed. (synthetic or natural)
Mayor Phillips asks for the Recreation Advisory Board’s help in deciding the above projects and the next steps to be taken. Some other thoughts: Joining the football leagues in town? Merging the little leagues (OBLL, MPLL, LHLL, SWSLL?) He mentions that now is the time to plan. PRESENTATION BY DR. IRA SHAPIRO: “Heat Related Illness”
After Dr. Ira Shapiro’s presentation, he concluded that there doesn’t need to be any restrictions on athletes regarding high temperatures or humidity as long as an athlete is properly hydrated before and during games. Also, it was discussed that Dr. Shapiro’s presentation would be helpful for coaches and can be presented at the next Coaches Certification class.
NOMINATIONS FOR CHAIRMAN AND VICE CHAIRMAN
Denis Kilduff was appointed Chairman. Vice Chairman will be decided at next meeting when Joe Dunn is present. Joe Dunn was nominated and seconded.
