RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
MEETING OF MARCH 23, 2005
ATTENDANCE
This meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm.
In attendance were: Tom Badcock, Lisa Cooney, Ray Battaglino, Isaac Crosson, Fran DiRocco ( entered at 7:40 pm); Steve Donohue, Joe Dunn, Keri Frew, Jodi Huss, Denis Kilduff, Bob Larson, Irene O’Kane (entered at 7:55 pm), Ash Patel, Bob Pepe and Councilmen Bill Baker and Kevin Calogera. Carol Norberg was present to take the minutes. Al DiRocco arrived at 7:40 pm to listen in on meeting.
Absent at this meeting were: Kevin Ruffler and Councilman Greene.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Denis Kilduff mentioned that an error was made in the attendance of the February meeting. He was not present at this meeting. The February minutes were approved after noting this change.
RECREATION/CAMP ROBIN UPDATE
Lisa mentioned that the Camp Robin update is in everyone’s folders. She talked about the summer programs. Also discussed was the Easter event and how well it was received. Tom told the members about the 15th Annual Camp Robin Golf Tournament being held on May 2nd at Glenwood. He also talked about the Jr. Knights hockey program and what a great season they had this year. He mentioned that next year there will be two intercollegiate hockey games held at the arena. (Rutgers vs. Maryland and Rutgers vs. Villanova). Kevin Calogera wanted to mention other areas where Old Bridge children are excelling, for instance, one of our high school track team members broke a national record and another student was named Equestrian of the Year. Denis talked about other achievements of the hockey teams.
CAPITAL PROJECTS
1. YMCA – Final intersection design for entrance almost complete. Waiting for signing of redevelopment agreement. RFP’s have been sent out by the YMCA. 2. Golf Course – RFP’s will be sent to 8 potential firms 3. Higgins Rd. Soccer – auxiliary parking lot should be finished next week. 4. Ticetown Soccer Irrigation – Township Engineering Dept. has the technical specs. Also discussed was lighting, which would be funded by the county. 5. Pension Road Irrigation was discussed. Ash mentioned lighting at this location would be appreciated too, if possible. 6. Arena Roof – will be worked on June – Aug. There will be no Mat Rat Festival this year 7. Senior Citizen Buses – will be getting two new buses 8. Central Park Playground 9. Emergency Access Road at Geick 10. Synthetic Surfacing at Geick Park 11. New Trucks – 3 new pick up trucks/plows/spreaders, large dump truck and welding machine 12. $50,000 Sprinkler system in the Civic Center 13. Cliffwood Beach County Project – should be completed in June. End to end measures 3.1 miles 14. Tennis Courts – will not be resurfaced this year, wasn’t funded for this year. 15. Sayrewoods South Little League paving project – Public Works to be doing the work. Bob Pepe mentioned he met with the Mayor and Rocky last week.
OLD BUSINESS
Joe Dunn asked about the Skatepark Festival being held at Vets Park. Lisa said she didn’t have details on that yet. Insurance issues were discussed as related to the Skatepark
NEW BUSINESS
For next year’s budget Tom mentioned he’s asking for: tennis court resurfacing, more park equipment, synthetic surfacing at Geick. Bill Baker asks if a skatepark on the other side of town could be added and also a dog park.
It was mentioned that the fields in the Phillips Reserve will be County Fields.
Ash mentioned that in May a professional coach will be here to help with Cricket.
Al DiRocco stated that a meeting has been set up to discuss the possible merger between the Township and the Board of Ed regarding Lombardi Field.
Al DiRocco said that he is giving a Cadet Umpire Clinic the first Saturday in April at Sayrewoods South Little League.
