RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 28, 2005
ATTENDANCE
The meeting was called to order at 7:50 pm. In attendance: Tom Badcock, Isaac Crosson, Fran DiRocco, Steve Donohue, Joe Dunn, Kerry Frew, Jody Huss, Denis Kilduff, Ash Patel (arrived 8:20 pm), Robert Pepe, and Councilman Richard Greene. Carol Norberg was present to take the minutes. Also in attendance was visitor Al DiRocco.
Absent from this meeting: Lisa Cooney, Ray Battaglino, Robert Larson, Irene O’Kane, Kevin Ruffler, and Councilmen Bill Baker and Kevin Calogera.
APPROVAL OF APRIL MINUTES
The April minutes were approved by the committee.
ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED
Denis mentioned that a Pop Warner Challenger Cheerleading program is now available and may be used at Camp Robin.
RECREATION/CAMP ROBIN UPDATE
Tom mentioned that Camp Robin had a very successful summer. Fall registration for recreation classes were discussed. Old Bridge Day will be October 1st. Halloween Spooktacular and the Haunted House will be at the end of October.
CAPITAL PROJECTS
1. Arena Parking Lot – planning on doing some preliminary drainage work. 2. Arena Roof Replacement – condensation issue discussed. Project complete except for some punch list items. 3. Golf Project – Proposal from Old Bridge Golf Course Partners and plans are discussed. 4. Ticetown Road Athletic Field Lighting - $518,000 came from the County to do this project, which was dedicated on 9/27. Irrigation project was also discussed. 5. Mannino Park and YMCA – Freehold/Western Monmouth YMCA has expressed interest in the YMCA project. Roadway (County) is almost complete which would lead into the park. Park plans are discussed. 6. Pension Road Irrigation Project – bids are coming in October for this job. 7. Fire Suppression System for Civic Center Main Level – will be done after the Halloween Event. 8. Synthetic Surfacing for Geick – Specs are being done for this project for the baseball field. In future, possibly the same surfacing for soccer field.
NEW BUSINESS
Bob Pepe talked about the heat of the summer and the children playing in the heat when the State calls for a Heat Advisory. Bob suggests some guidelines be established about playing when the heat is intense in the summer months. Denis will try to get Dr. Ira Shapiro to speak at the next meeting about this.
Joe Dunn mentioned that Cheesequake Baseball has a new President, Mr. Pete Reale.
Having signs created that announce a Township Park is being approached were discussed. Tom will investigate this possibility.
