RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES OF JANUARY 28, 2004
ATTENDANCE
This meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm.
In attendance were: Tom Badcock, Lisa Cooney, Ray Battaglino, Joe DeSimone, Fran DiRocco, Joe Dunn, Rob Felicetti, Kerry Frew, Gerard Haran, Denis Kilduf, Robert Larson, Irene O’Kane, Ash Patel, Robert Pepe, and Councilmen Kevin Calogera and Richard Greene.
Absent from this meeting were: Richard Bezeg, Kevin Ruffler and Councilman Bill Baker.
Carol Norberg was present to take the minutes.
Visitors to the meeting were: Jerry Farantino and Artie Boch from Sayrewoods South Men's League. This league contributes to the Camp Robin Program and have dedicated their excess funds and fundraising efforts to the Camp Robin Program. Last year they donated digital cameras and also provided for Camp Robin participants to go to two baseball games.
Tom welcomed the returning members and the new members to the committee.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
November minutes were approved. Motion by Fran DiRocco, seconded by Joe DeSimone, all members were in agreement.
APPOINTMENTS FOR CHAIRMAN AND VICE CHAIRPERSON
Denis Kilduf nominated Gerard Haran for Chairman, Fran seconded the nomination, all members were in favor.
Gerard Haran nominated Denis Kilduf for Vice Chairman and Joe DeSimone seconded the nomination, all members were in favor.
Gerard mentioned the importance of members making every effort to attend these meetings. He explained how important the members input is to the Recreation Dept. and also how members can bring information back to the meetings that neighbors and friends have passed on as far as wishes and things they’d like to see done.
RECREATION/CAMP ROBIN UPDATE
Lisa explained that when the new brochures were printed up new members names were not known at the time. She mentioned that the Laurence Harbor building is now complete and there are new classes in the brochure that would be taking place at that site. Online registration for the summer camp will be available one week before the mail-in registrations. Kevin Calogera mentions that it should be mentioned if people don’t have computers, they could access the computers at the library.
Camp Robin Grant monies ($10,000) will be used for a mainstreamed theatre program for Camp Robin Participants.
CAPITAL PROJECTS
1. Laurence Harbor Recreation Building is complete. The County will be completing the waterfront to the Monmouth County border starting in the spring.
2. YMCA – Town was awarded property transfer for the small piece of property by Owens Rd. to make the entrance to Mannino Park. Fundraising continues for the YMCA. Preliminary designs of the YMCA anticipated for the spring. Detailed discussions regarding County funding, YMCA committee meetings, and financing followed.
3. Golf Course – Tom mentions we will be moving forward in the spring, and explains the next steps that will be taken as far as the RFP. Detailed discussions followed regarding financing, etc.
OLD BUSINESS
The Code of Conduct was reviewed and discussed. All is in place and it was mentioned that other towns are starting to do the same as Old Bridge did.
NEW BUSINESS
The attendance issue of the Recreation Advisory Board Committee was discussed. It was decided that a resolution would be done proposing if any member misses three meetings in the year (Jan – Dec), that member staying on the Committee would be decided upon by review of the Recreation Advisory Board. The council will always be able to reappoint if they deem necessary. Kevin Calogera will pass this by the township lawyer first before it is introduced to Council.
It was decided that the November 17th meeting for 2004 will be moved to December 1st due to the League of Municipality meeting taking place that same week in November.
