RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 25, 2004
The next Recreation Advisory Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 7:30 pm in the Civic Center Bldg.
ATTENDANCE
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 pm.
In attendance were: Tom Badcock, Lisa Cooney, Ray Battaglino, Joe DeSimone, Fran DiRocco, Joe Dunn, Robert Felicetti, Tara Flynn-Rozanski, Kerry Frew, Gerard Haran, Denis Kilduff, Robert Larson, Irene O’Kane, Ash Patel, Councilmen Bill Baker and Kevin Calogera.
Absent from this meeting were: Rich Bezeg, Bob Pepe, Kevin Ruffler and Councilman Richard Greene.
Carol Norberg was present to take the minutes.
Al DiRocco was also present at this meeting.
Linda Seiler entered the meeting at 8:15 pm.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the January, 2004 meeting were approved.
ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED
Gerard asks if anyone would like to be the representative for the YMCA Committee Meetings from our committee. This would be discussed at the end of the meeting
RECREATION/CAMP ROBIN UPDATE
Camp Robin Reports were handed out. The Elks had their annual dinner and Pete was chosen as their Man of the Year. Lisa mentions that registration has begun for the spring programs. Lisa is asking if anyone wants to help out at the Easter event. Lisa mentions that they are in the process of planning for the summer camp. Tom mentioned that the Special Olympics Speedskating Team will be honored at the second council meeting in March. At the first council meeting in March, they will be honoring the Jr. Knights Hockey Squirt “A” Team for winning NJ Youth Hockey North Section championship.
Tom mentions the 15th Annual Camp Robin Golf outing will be held on May 3, 2004.
CAPITAL PROJECTS
YMCA – The Township and YMCA attorney’s are working on agreement. The Mayor has created a redevelopment zone for Mannino Park area; this would make it easier and allow us to get outside money to fund this project. This was discussed in detail amongst members and Tom.
Golf Course - Tom mentions there will be a meeting set up to discuss specifics with Mayor Phillips, Bill Baker, Ed Testino, and himself with regards to redevelopment, RFP’s and RFQ’s.
OLD BUSINESS
It was mentioned that there will be a meeting March 11th between the Board of Ed., the Mayor and Township Council to discuss shared services.
Rob Felicetti talks about an incident in basketball that fell under the Athletic Code of Conduct.
NEW BUSINESS
Al DiRocco talks about the Board of Ed. planning to cut $51,000 from the athletic budget (for coaches, uniforms, supplies, equipment). This was discussed in detail among the members. There will be a Board of Ed. finance meeting on March 2nd at 7:30 pm to discuss this. It was decided that Gerard Haran, Denis Kilduff, and Rob Felicetti would attend from the Recreation Advisory Committee.
Bob Larson volunteered to be the YMCA committee member from the Recreation Advisory Board.
The Recreation Dept’s operating budget was discussed. Our budget will be compared to other town's (of comparable size) budgets and discussed at the next meeting.
