RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 22, 2004
ATTENDANCE
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 pm.
In attendance were: Tom Badcock, Lisa Cooney, Steve Donohue, Fran DiRocco, Tara Flynn-Rozanski, Kerry Frew, Gerard Haran, Denis Kilduff, Bob Larson, Irene O’Kane (arrived at 7:55 pm), Ash Patel, Bob Pepe. Also in attendance were Councilmen Calogera and Greene. Carol Norberg was present to take the minutes.
Absent from this meeting were: Ray Battaglino, Joe DeSimone, Joe Dunn, Rob Felicetti, Kevin Ruffler and Councilman Baker.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes of the June meeting were approved. Motion was made by Bob Pepe, seconded by Bob Larson.
ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED
The YMCA is looking for candidates to be on the YMCA Board of Management. Gerard read the memo that was given to all members.
RECREATION/CAMP ROBIN UPDATE
Registration is going on now for fall classes. All classes will start up in beginning of October.
CAPITAL PROJECTS
1. Laurence Harbor Recreation Center: Outdoor work being done. 2. Middlesex County Phase II of the Waterfront: groundbreaking was last week 3. Arena Roof : A consultant is giving their proposal 4. Tennis Courts: Mazur Consultants are doing final specs.for the resurfacing. John Vincenti is addressing the drainage problem there. 5. Ticetown Road Soccer Complex irrigation system: This project will be bid out in late winter and work to be done in April 6. Higgins Fields: Extending parking lot 7. Sayrewoods South Little League: Parking lot paving project ready to be started. 8. YMCA – Moving ahead 9. Rebels will be relocated to county property across the street on Rt. 516 10. State of NJ Grant Application for the purchasing of two new senior buses and also for new equipment and gazebo at Central Park 11. Pension Road Park – contracting to design the drainage and irrigation system for cricket field 12. Golf Course: Work continues on finding a partner to develop the course with the Township.
OLD BUSINESS
Recreation and Parks Department staffing concerns were discussed.
NEW BUSINESS
Denis talked about getting back from a meeting with the Mayor, Mike Jacobs, Bill Baker, Gerard Haran and Tom Badcock in which short and long-term goals were discussed. For long term goals: continue obtaining open space and the completion of Mannino Park. Short-term goals: YMCA, new synthetic turf at Geick’s upper soccer field; and the possibility of the county building a new central ice rink. However, Mayor Phillips said this project won’t happen due to all the other projects the county is funding in Old Bridge.
