RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD

MINUTES OF DECEMBER 1, 2004

The meeting was called to order at 7:45 pm.

In attendance were: Tom Badcock, Lisa Cooney, Ray Battaglino, Steve Donohue, Fran DiRocco, Kerry Frew, Denis Kilduff, Robert Larson, Irene O’Kane (arrived 8:15), Ash Patel, Councilmen Bill Baker and Rich Greene. Also in attendance was Al DiRocco. Carol Norberg was present to take the minutes.

Absent from this meeting were: Joe DeSimone (resigning), Joe Dunn, Robert Felicetti (resigning), Tara Flynn-Rozanski, Gerard Haran, Bob Pepe, Kevin Ruffler and Councilman Kevin Calogera.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The minutes of the October meeting were approved.

ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED

RECREATION/CAMP ROBIN UPDATE

Tom mentioned that Hanukah on Ice will be held at the Arena on Sunday, December 12th. The Tree and Menorah Lighting on Monday, December 13th. The Township Holiday Party will be held on December 11th.

Lisa mentions that there isn’t a Camp Robin Report for tonight’s meeting as Pete Pero was on vacation. All Camp Robin programs are running and doing well. Lisa informs everyone that Commerce Bank donated $2,000 for the Township Holiday party. The High School chorus will be at the Tree and Menorah lighting and Starbucks is donating coffee and hot chocolate for the event. For the Adopt an Angel program, there are still angels on the tree available to anyone who wants to participate. Ice Registration will be starting on December 13th. The Spring Recreation Brochure will be available end of January/beginning of February. Youth Guidance is having a dance this Friday night with benefits to go to Sami’s Supporting Cast.

Tom mentions that the Halloween program was outstanding, thanks to Lisa and Beau Byrtus. Dr. Brunsden donated the money for this event.

CAPTIAL PROJECTS

1. Waterfront – Under construction leading to Cliffwood Beach. Should be finished Fall 2005.
2. Golf Course – Sent out RFQ’s to about 35 developers and will be starting to get responses this week.
3. Geick Park Emergency Access Road – working on providing access for first aid to get to the High School in the event of an emergency.
4. Cliffwood Beach Recreation Center – New Flagpoles, new sign to go up in the Spring.
5. Mannino Park – County engineer working on the revised plans for the intersection at Owens Rd. and Rt. 516.
6. YMCA – An agreement is close with Red Bank YMCA.
7. Tennis Court Resurfacing – Work to be done around April of 2005.
8. Sayrewoods South Little League Paving – Public works should be starting this any day.
9. Pension Road Cricket fields – drainage and irrigation should be out for bid late winter.
10. Laurence Harbor Rec. Center - flagpoles, benches, sign to be put out in the Spring, 2005.
11. Arena Parking Lot – Township Engineer is working on design to help with drainage.
12. Senior Buses – bid is due next week
13. Dog Park – in planning stages
14. Ticetown Rd. Soccer Complex – lighting for fields being discussed
15. Synthetic Surface for Soccer Fields at Geick (upper) and small area of Baseball field – planning stages
16. Vehicles and Equipment for Parks – replacements and new equipment are needed
17. Fire Suppression Sprinkler System in the Civic Center – necessity in lieu of special events held at the center
18. Arena Roof – will be replaced on separate bond
19. Board of Ed – partnership with Township for Lombardi field for repairs.

Bill Baker asked about getting grants for some of these capital projects. Rich Green and Al DiRocco gave their opinions on Lombardi Field. The cost of synthetic turf was discussed.

Tom mentions that Camp Robin received a $1,000 donation from the Old Bridge Rotary Club and $1,000 from the PBA. Anyone who wants to serve on the Board again must send a note to the Clerk’s office and state your intentions.

ADJOURNMENT

Tom thanks all the board members and the council members for all their interest and work on the Recreation Advisory Board for this year. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 pm.
