RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES OF JUNE 11, 2003
The meeting was called to order at 8 pm. This meeting was rescheduled from May 28th in which there was no quorum.
In attendance at this time were: Tom Badcock. Lisa Cooney, Ray Battaglino, Richard Bezeg, Nancy Calogera, Joe Dunn, Gerard Haran, Bob Pepe, Janet Phillips, Tom Stead, Kevin Calogera, Bill Baker, and Richard Greene. Kerry Frew entered at 8:10; Dennis Kilduff and Joe DeSimone entered at 8:35.
Absent from this meeting were: Fran DiRocco, Kevin Ruffler and Paul Taguer. Carol Norberg was present to take minutes.
Approval of Minutes
Minutes of April 30th meeting were approved.
Recreation/Camp Robin Update
The Camp Robin Report is in everyone’s folders. Lisa filled everyone in about summer camp registration. She mentioned the Pooch Parade was a success and that the Father/Daughter Dance is coming up on June 16th.
Tom mentions that the groundbreaking for the 9/11 memorial took place.
Capital Projects
1. Mannino Park Master Plan - Tom went over the map for the benefit of the members. The board voted to endorse the concept for the Mannino Park schematic that T&M prepared.
2. Laurence Harbor Recreation Bldg. - Renovation work will start within two weeks.
Item to be Discussed: Athletic Code of Conduct
Members discussed the draft of the Athletic Code of Conduct that Dennis Kilduff presented which the subcommittee worked on. All members agreed to send the draft to council for their amendments and approval in order for this to be made a Township ordinance. It was decided that any minor changes made by the township attorney can be approved by the subcommittee members, or if there are substantial changes, have the Recreation Board review again.
Old Business
1. Golf Course - Tom informs the committee that Council tabled the bond ordinance concerning the funding for the golf course. Tom reads a letter from the Mazer Consulting Co. which explains that the golf course would have enough ground water to operate. The Township is still waiting for the dollar amount from the MUA in case we have to purchase water from them for emergency water need (drought). He mentions it is important that members voice their opinions and their support for the golf course project at the next council meeting on June 23rd.
New Business
Due to the YMCA kick-off meeting on September 24th, it was decided to move the September Recreation Advisory Board meeting to the week before (Sept. 17th). The next meeting will be June 25th.
