RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES OF OCTOBER 22, 2003
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 pm.
In attendance: Tom Badcock, Lisa Cooney, Ray Battaglino, Rich Bezeg, Nancy Calogera, Joe Dunn, Gerard Haran, Denis Kilduff, Bob Pepe, Bill Baker, Janet Phillips (8:00), Tom Stead (8:00).
Carol Norberg was present to take the minutes.
Absent from this meeting were: Joe DeSimone, Fran DiRocco, Kerry Frew, Kevin Ruffler, Kevin Calogera, and Richard Greene.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes of the August and September 2003 meetings were approved by the committee. (Motion to approve both months made by Denis Kilduff, seconded by Bob Pepe)
ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED:
Bob Pepe inquired if there was a plan to extend the walkway to the 9/11 Memorial. Tom responded that it is planned and the walkway will be handicap accessible.
RECREATION/CAMP ROBIN UPDATE:
Lisa mentioned that the Camp Robin update is in everyone’s folders. She explained that we had the first on-line registration with the fall programs. Lisa brought members up to date on the Halloween special event. Tom explained that Lisa was able to get sponsorship from Dr. Brunsden for this event,so that this does not come out of taxpayer money.
CAPITAL PROJECTS:
- Laurence Harbor Building is basically finished.
- Cliffwood Beach Building – parking lot and basketball court are complete
- YMCA kick-off meeting was October 21st to solicit funds from local business.
Nancy Calogera agreed to chair a subcommittee which will look into donating items to Ebay and the proceeds then can be donated to the YMCA.
- Golf Project is on Hold
OLD BUSINESS:
The Code of Conduct information will be incorporated into the grant allocation package. All presidents of youth leagues will be invited to the next Recreation Advisory Board meeting in order to discuss the Code and answer questions. All information will be distributed at this time, including copies of the St. Barnabas VCR tape, and the grant packages.
Signage was discussed as to how this will be posted at the various leagues. Tom felt it would be beneficial for signs to be mounted on the building, if applicable, or on a parking lot fence. Suggested color would be a blue sign with white letters. Tom suggests that Traffic and Safety can make up the signs.
NEW BUSINESS:
Tom mentions that Wayne Anderson was hired as the new seasonal Arena Manager. The snack bar will be run by EZ Check of Trenton, who was awarded the contract.
Joe Dunn mentioned that the road by Cheesequake Baseball field is dangerous and needs a flashing light to warn drivers. Tom mentioned he would call Capt. Bonfante who would know how to approach it with the State DOT. Bill Baker suggested using cones in the interim. Tom suggested that Capt. Bonfante will know if these are appropriate for the road.
Denis Kilduf informed everyone that the Mayor’s Trophy games for football will be held this coming Sunday Oct. 26th, starting at 9:30 am.
Gerard suggested we should be think about the “Volunteer” award for the next meeting.
