Youth Police Academy Program
The Youth Police Academy program is geared towards youngsters between the ages of 10 to 17 years of age. The program provides an awareness of the law enforcement field and includes classes in physical fitness training, crime scene investigation, substance abuse and police canines. The instruction provided is similar to police academy training.
The 2010 Youth Police Academy program will not be held this summer. The Police Department hopes to reinstate the program in 2011.

D.A.R.E.
The goal of the D.A.R.E. program is to significantly reduce/eliminate the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and the use of violent behavior among young people. Through D.A.R.E., students are taught to understand the physical, emotional and social effects of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and inhalants on their developing brains and bodies, as well as the legal ramifications. Students are also taught to apply refusal strategies and resistance skills in a variety of life-like situations.
