8/23/2018 - Proposed Cottrell Farm Park

Proposed Cottrell Farm Park - Steering Committee Meeting No. 1

Cottrell Farm is an approximately 21.5 acre site situated in the Township of Old Bridge, currently designated on the tax map as Block 10252.24, Lots 18 & 34, located at the northeast quadrant of the intersection of Cottrell Road (County Route 687) and County Route 516 (Figure 1).

In 2010, Cottrell Farm was acquired by Middlesex County in accordance with the Open Space, Recreation, and Farmland and Historic Preservation Act and the Middlesex County Open Space Plan (MCOSP). Additionally, the site is subject to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Green Acres Program restrictions as provided at N.J.S.A. 13:8C-1, et seq. and N.J.A.C. 7:36.

Old Bridge Township entered into a Conservation Management Agreement with Middlesex County on April 6, 2017, where the Township has accepted responsibility for security, liability, management and enforcement of the Green Acres Restrictions and enforcement of the Middlesex County Park rules and regulations not inconsistent with the Deed Restrictions.

The Township of Old Bridge is now prepared to begin utilizing the Cottrell Farm property and develop the land as a passive and active park.  The proposed improvements will enhance the recreational opportunities at the southeastern section of Middlesex County for Old Bridge Township residents.  A Steering Committee was created to steer the visions of the proposed Cottrell Farm Park consisting of the Mayor, Business Administrator, Council, Construction Code Official, Historical Society, Shade Tree Commission, Township Planner, Township Engineer, Planning Board, NJDEP Green Acres, Middlesex County and Old Bridge Township Parks Department, Police, Fire Marshal, OEM Coordinator and Department of Public Works.

The presentation given to the Steering Committee is attached showing the proposed preliminary conceptual design for the park.
