MIDDLESEX COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION COTTRELL ROAD (CR 687) DRAINAGE & ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS (Between Spring Hill Road and Phillips Drive)

In 2011 Middlesex County began preparation of bid documents for roadway and drainage improvements on Cottrell Road (Middlesex County Route 687) between Spring Hill Road and Phillips Drive.  This section of Cottrell Road continually experiences flooding due to three existing undersized culvert pipes.  All three culvert pipes will be replaced as part of the project.

The length of the project is approximately 2,400 linear feet.  The existing road contains one travel lane in each direction and is approximately 26 feet wide.  Cottrell Road will be widened to provide one 12-foot travel lane with 8-foot shoulders in each direction (40-foot total width) and sidewalks on both sides.

The project was delayed due to right-of-way acquisition required for roadway widening and sidewalk construction.  More recently the project has been delayed due to coordination of required utility relocation.

Middlesex County Department of Transportation Division of Engineering began construction of this long-awaited drainage and roadway improvement project, on Cottrell Road (Middlesex County Route 687) on October 17, 2023. During construction the roadway will be open to two-way traffic using temporary traffic lights to alternate each traffic lane for the project duration.   Expect delays and if possible, use an alternate route.
